It doesn't take a village to teach a child; it takes much more. It takes the right approach, timing, physical environment, people, mindset, etc. The way that I work with my clients is building a program built just for them. I do not follow the same route curriculum as some others might recommend. I search for a student's likes/dislikes, hobbies, strengths, and areas in need of improvement before introducing a cohesive plan of attack-complete educational services. How a person learns information can be just as important as the information, itself. I break down the barriers by making my sessions ones that students don't see as a "chore," (like school) but rather as really engaging (like summer camp). As an Academic Achievement Specialist in Olney, most of my clients tend to find that my focus on how they learn allows them to shine--I don't teach them how to shine, just where to focus the light.
